Vaastu

The importance and belief in people of constructing / arranging the house as per principles of Vaastu Shastra and Feng Shui has increased tremendously. Not aware about of these principles but want to implement it...don't worry....this article would mention some basic principles of Vaastu Shastra, having read you can easily implement them in your house.
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art / practice that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it. “Feng” means “wind” and “shui” means water. Am not going details on this art....This article mainly focuses about Vaastu Shastra.

Vaastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture and buildings which helps in making a congenial setting of a place to live and work in a most scientific way taking advantage of the benefits bestowed by nature, its elements and energy fields for enhanced wealth, health, prosperity and happiness. In Sanskrit the word “vaastu” means “building or structure” and “shastra” means “instruction”.

Below are some of the basic principles of the vaastu shastra along with an explanation. We can understand how Vaastu works with the help of the below snapshot that illustrates the directions and forces that govern them.

  • Most beneficial entrance to the house are East, North and North East as this is the place where the light enters and is the place of GOD / knowledge. South is not preferred as it is the residing place of “Yama”, God of Death.
  • Living Room and Dinning Room can be best located at East or North or North East direction as this is place of positive energy.
  • Pooja room can ideally be in North-East but should never be in South-West (Place for negative energy and demons). As North East is the place of God and has more positive forces.
  • Heavy Objects or garbage / storage things should not be placed in North-East corner as it is residing place of God.
  • South West is proper place for garbage, toilets and storage.
  • The ideal place for kitchen is South-East (fire god, Agni) followed by North-West (vayu), East (Knowledge / Light) and should never be placed in North-East (place of God), Center (Brahma sthanam) and South-West (Demons – this would cause ill health for the residents) corner. While cooking one should face towards East, as it indicates facing light that is nothing but facing cooking fire.
  • Wealth should never be located in West / South-West which is the place for Negative Energy.
  • In Study Room, one should face towards east or north which is the location of Light / God / Wealth.
  • Master Bedroom should ideally be in South Western direction.
  • Childeren’s Bedroom should ideally be in NorthEast. It can be in South-East and North but never in South-West or South.
  • Boy’s Bedroom should be in the North and/or East Zones.
  • Girl’s and Guest rooms should be in the North-West Zone. Place of Wind God, which indicates not permanent.
  • Ideally place for the head set of the bed is South, it ensures long life. It should never be placed in North direction.
  • Bathrooms should be in North West of the house or in West or South direction and inside the bedroom, it can be placed in Northern or Easter side of the room. It should never be placed in North East, Center, South West and West Direction.
  • Large trees should never be planted in the east and north-eastern sides and should be planted only in south and western sides. As east is the source of spiritual energy / power, it should never be blocked and blocking southern directions, blocks death.
